The traditional community support system for child care and protection has weakened due to changes in the social economic landscape. Many young children don’t have access to basic needs and rights such as, provision of quality, accessible, affordable care & protections services. Nyota Care seeks to contribute to efforts to improve quality provision of these services by empowering communities, parents/caregivers.
In addition, doctrine and legislation are rarely developmentally sensitive, lumping children into an undifferentiated category regardless of age. The legal system thus misses key opportunities to combat inequality and foster healthy development for all children as a human right. We therefore, advocate for legal systems/legal stakeholders to assign rights and responsibilities as well as, create policies that are more developmentally sensitive.
