Childcare Quality Improvement

Nyota care is involved in building the capacity of caregivers in both Dandora - Embakasi North and Riverbank, Kwa Ndege-Embakasi East respectively. The project objectives are to sensitize caregivers on the Nyota Care ECD program; to build the capacity of caregivers in provision of quality ECD in relation the Nurturing Care Framework; and to provide knowledge and skills on child protection and safeguarding. The caregivers comprise of both home-based and centre -based childcare service providers.

Junior Warriors Program

Nyota Care has an ongoing child safeguarding training program for children aged 5-14 years. Participant learners come from Dandora, Umoja, Huruma and Civil Servant Estate in Nairobi, Kenya. The sessions are conducted for one (1) week on school holidays. Facilitators consist of volunteers across several professions such as lawyers, child psychologists and child counsellors among others. Topics and focus areas include; self-identity, childhood transitions, self- confidence and personality, financial management, online child safety and spiritual growth.

Through this program and trainings, a child rights advocacy cohort of 30 children in Nairobi Eastlands area, known as the Nyota Care Warriors, has been established.

Children With Disabilities Program

Nyota Care works towards the inclusion of children with Neurological Developmental challenges in regular childcare settings; through the operation of a Baby Junior Community Centre located in Civil Servants Estate, Nairobi, Kenya. Out of a total population of 55 learners aged 5-11 years, Nyota care has ensured the inclusion of 15 learners with various learning neurological developmental challenges. To achieve this, Nyota applies a play-based learning approach using local materials to stimulate learning for the learners with neurological developmental challenges.

Parental/Caregivers Empowerment Program

Nyota Care conducts caregiver trainings through the Baby Junior Community Centre. For instance, training was conducted for parents in Tassia Baraka Deliverance Church Kwa Ndege on Parenting in the 21st Century. The full scope of trainings offered and conducted include: Teacher training, caregiver/parental workshops on play- material development, mentorship and coaching services and guides for developing community-based solutions on holistic child development and child rights.

Nyota has also trained the church leadership on child safeguarding within the church context as well as, with in the community in Tassia Kwa Ndege, Nairobi, Kenya.
